Technical exhaust cat

my doblo 2003 has done 47k and today on the M60 decided that it needed more air so decided to snap off the cat convertor.
decided with experience of main dealers to go to my local quick fit who are cheaper the guy said they have had a few snap off just behind the cat convertor.
an expensive trip £450!
anybody else have same experience?

Just had same problem. My friendly local mechanic repaired, rather than replace it. It had failed mot because of it, and then passed, so that will do for me.
There is no way I was going to pay over £400!!

my doblo did this about 60k cost me about £350 for it
