Evans waterless coolant

Hi, I am still quite a newbie here but have a question. Has anyone ever used Evans waterless coolant. I am considering for my Punto when I get to that stage and also I am going to put in my Mercedes. Just wondering how well in performed.


I have lost 3 cats in 3 years to antifreeze poisoning, the latest being today. wasn't my coolant fortunately but I don't want to take a chance in the future.


The Ethylene glycol in standard coolant is highly toxic and Evans claims to be non toxic. other claims of improved performance and reduced internal corrosion will be useful side effects. Although pricey the fact it then never needs changing will then drive down future service costs. Its meant to keep pressure low too so less stress on hoses and radiators.


I'm sure as hell going to seek out a non toxic alternative. My question really is "Evans, is this the best value and safest or are there other alternatives?"


I will be sure to pass on the results of what ever system I use

Hi jon. Sorry about your loss fortunately most (if not all) antifreezes sold these days have added stuff in them to make them very bitter in taste as so many pet owners have lost cats due to older antifreezes sugary scent. Unfortunately there's still a lot of cars running the old stuff and it's easy (or lazy) to just open the bottom hose up and empty it all over the floor

Anyway I'm imminently going to be using Evans waterless in mine. Not because it's safer but because I hear it's great stuff to use. Because there's no water it doesn't boil at 100 degrees so there's zero pressure in the system so it's kinder on hoses, pumps header caps etc. its also better at transferring heat plus it lasts for the life of the car so if you do drain it out you just pour it back in
The only down side is the price. At £80 for 5 litres it ain't cheap and it's not made cheaper by the fact that you need to buy prep fluid to absorb as much water out of the system as possible before you fill with the waterless. Personally it's well worth it

They used on Wheeler Dealers, I recall. Don't know how it performed in the long run as they sell the car at the end of each show!

Gadge, that's for reply, I had a long chat, nearly 45 mins, with the company on the phone. Yeah we lost two cats in 2012 on the same day, then our latest edition today. Heartbreaking as he was a good all round cat, the dog loved him, his brother misses him.


I'm hoping will become the norm to use non toxic coolant. will save lives and protect the environment.


Bitrex is good but some animals don't seem t mind it I guess,


Evans, I have to say were brilliant on phone. went through the whole process. didn't try to sell me it. I'm going to get some ordered. I need 8l for the Mercedes so is going to cost a bomb.


I like the sound of it. practically maintenance free, always good. I'm thinking about replacing all my hoses too, as last thing I want is a busted hose 6 months down the line. Would be a bit expensive. at very least I'll inspect them. I definitely need new thermostat as mines jammed open.


with less internal pressure the hoses should last a lifetime too.


I'll probably do my Fathers and sisters, their cars are much newer so will help them out with service costs in future.


Staffordmike, yeah I remember seeing on wheeler dealers. was a while back so Evens has been around a bit.
