just to let any one know who may be interested.
i have a 1.1 cinq. the tickover was fine most of the time but it would rev between 1000 and 1700 of it's own accord. sometimes it would go to 2500. it was like puttting your foot on the throtle and blipping it.
i cured it by removing the idle control valve. plugging it into the loom and turning ignition on and off. it has a plunger inside that winds out on a thread. don't let it spring apart, make sure you check how it comes apart. the thread had corrosion on it. i lubed it up and screwed it back together, note that it will only screw a little way back in then it gets to some slots. make sure that the slots are linned up and fit the assy back onto the throttle body. nip the screw up GENTLY so that when you turn the ign on then off the valve will wind in slightly. gently tighten the screws and do the ign again. repeat untill the valve is flush with the throtle body and then fully tighten screws.
