hi new to this but i have punto 02 1.2 8v i knw this forum is for bravo/a owners but just thought id run it past anyone on here if they can help in any way..
I was basically driving it and all of sudden the eobd light (engine light) came may i say i driving normally no thrashing dnt thrash my cars. anyway the light staying on and i lost all power and it struggles to pick up speed anyway my dad got it checked out been told that the ecu needs changing as dad took car to local garage where it was connected to comp and they said that the ecu is knackered and needs changing..
had spark plugs and everything else checked...
1st question is it easy to change this?
can any garage change this? or can only fiat do this?
been quoted £289 for ecu and £85 labour = £374 from fiat garage
also i rang and i asked if i did get diagnostic check or checked what the problem is from fiat garage it would cost £52.88 apparently it takes 90 mins to do this???
personally i think they ripping me off as i have checked the net and seen i can pick ecu for punto for £140 ecutesting.com site i also rang there today and he i asked him about this and he said it is simple take air filter off and the ecu is there take that off and put the new one in and he said it was simple as that!!! he asked i would need part number which is from current ecu or something...
basically if i get all the work done from fiat = £374 plus £52.88 =£426.88 and that is alot money to be paid for this.. if it is simply a case of taking ecu out and putting another one in..
when i was chatting the guy from fiat on the phone he said that you dont just put the ecu in u hav to program it...
but been told by someone else once ecu fitted simply need to rev to 5,6000 revs 3 times in a row switch engine off then start again.. and it would be sorted
yes i hav been told there are a few different model numbers but all of which are priced at 140 quid from ecutesting.com.. jus need to giv part number of the ecu... which i dont knw as i havent took it out id rather someone else took it out "fear what if i mess it up or do somit wrong"...wud haunt me...
i spoke to my dad again n he said when he took to the local ther comp said it was defo the ecu...
i knw im not the most technical... but i might have to just take to fiat garage and ask them what is wrong with it 55 quid for that..
n then if it is then order ecu and get someone to put it in then i guess?
please help thanks.. coz this doing my head in now
and no car to drive...its jus sittin outside surely someone knows how to get this sorted
any help would be appreciated..
