General Environmental Charge???

Just got my service bill through the post and at the bottom it says 'environmental charge' £3 plus VAT.
What is it?

This is a charge for disposing of your old oil and filters as companys have to pay for disposal of hazardous waste and prove to the governmant that they are doing it correctly.

Don't see why they should pass this charge on to the customer. They could give me the old oil and I could get rid of it for free at the council tip, well not exactly free, that's what we pay rates for.

Although apart for those who understand about oil and cars Rich, most people would want it disposed of

£3 isn't bad, I got charged £10 I think on my last service. Working in Halfrauds and seeing how much it costs the company to dispose of old batteries I can see why they pass it onto the customer!
