Driving to work yesterday late evening and car died on me Fiat Punto 55 SX - 1.1cc

mechanic says its the BIG N's? or what ever u call them? :S


Big something?


anyways says the engine is screwed and gonna need a new one

any idea where I can get a fiat punto engine from? fairly good price?

Yup, pretty common, easy to source engine. eBay or a local scrappie will be the bet bet. £100 should see you with a goodun.

I have an excellent 1581cc motor available out of a Punto ELX90 c/w all multipoint injection kit - tho wd be a handful to install into a lesser Punto - but good price to you guv (Devon).

1.2 8v spi engine ( punto 60) would bolt straight in, that would be my choice

p60 engine will drop straight in no modifications to your car at all. Fostertoms engine is out of a mk1 punto also but would not be as simple a swap, and if you ask me pretty pointless as well. No offence tom, its just an old heavy outdated engine that one, the 1.2 16v that replaced it is much better.

dont forget to stick a new clutch in whilst its all in bits

do check for wear on the pressure plate! and might as well at least swap the thrust bearing while its off too.

Will any fiat mk2 engine go into my fiat punto 55 sx? my engine size is 1.1 if i could get a 1.2 into my mk1 fiat that'd be great!!

MK2 are mpi, so will fit but not run with out lots of work. cant be hard to find a 1.2 8v mk1 engine, where you live?

I Live in Suffolk been searching pretty much all day for a 1.1 engine for my punto but really have not had a great deal of luck!

I am considering 1.2 in my 55 sx but not sure it will fit?
hence why i came here asking and only pretty much had one person say it'll fit no problem..

a 1.2 from a punto mk1 60 will fit. a mk1 1.2 from a 75 wont.

suffolk is a big place, what side?

I think you'll find ive proberly contacted a large majority of breakers within suffolk and essex today and they only really have mk1 turbo 1300..
and mk2 1.2 engines... :'(

a cinq sporting engine will fit but will just be the same 1.1 that you have.

i'll try and remember to call kelvedon autos tomorrow, they may have forgot to look in the back of the vans where they keep engines
