Engine shake on tickover.

I have a Fiat Brava 1.6 ELX 1997 UK 107,000 miles.

I have just had it serviced. Before it went in for the service on tickover (just below 1000revs)the engine moves about, causing a wobbling feeling sitting inside, after the service it is still the same, although the car is smooth on acceleration etc, just at tickover. The Mechanic said it happens on older cars?? He did a diagnostic and attached to a Crypton. There must be a reason! Hopefully simple. Any ideas? Thanks

There is your reason. If you want something thats smooth at idle get a nice big new straight 6, not an old small 4cly.

he was right. its worn inside, its mounts are worn, and all the bits attached to it are worn, so its no longer perfectly balanced. unless its really horrific, then its normal for a little bit of vibration at idle.
