Engine rattle from Hyundai Coupe mk1 1.6

posted this on coupe forum but it's not as active as this one.

My mums 1.6 coupe has like a tappety noise coming from the engine.

it used to do this but not as loud when the engine was cold but now it's doing it all the time and alot louder.

Plus it did run for a few weeks with next to no oil in it.

any ideas? I'm thinking probably valves or cams have had it.

Sounds like top end, time for a head removal

running on low oil usually kills the bottom end first (crank shells) but i'd need to hear it for myself to decide where it is coming from.

Well theres a guy in my street with a accent 1.5 vvti ran it low on oil for a while (n00b) and nows his is making that sort of noise even after an oil change and topped up. Sounds more like bottom end to me too.
