Hi
I have a Fiat Ducato based motorhome 2020. 2.3 180hp engine. When cold the engine starts no problem. After a journey though the engine refuses to start. Turn key and nothing. Display on dash is normal. Next day the engine again starts without issue. Any ideas as it’s a real pain. TIA

I had a similar problem many years ago on a Talbot Express, but usually only had to wait for a few minutes. Still embarrassing at campsite receptions, and filling stations. On that engine the starter was mounted above the turbo, and was fitted with a heat shield. I reasoned that the resistance of the starter solenoid was increasing with temperature to the extent that there was insufficient current flowing through the starter solenoid. Again on that vehicle I was able to easily add a relay into the solenoid circuit. End of my problem. I subsequently became aware that others had suffered from the same problem.

I am tempted to speculate that you problem could be due to high resistance contacts somewhere in the circuit, which will include the engine fusebox, intermediate connectors, and the ignition switch itself. With my Talbot Express, I got as far as dismounting the starter, and connecting only the solenoid and earth. There was no specific point at which the voltage dropped sharply when the solenoid was energised. Hence the added relay.
