Hi guys,

YouTube- ‪engine noise when warming up after oil change to 10w30.mp4‬‎

Fiat Uno 1108 cc FIRE engine, 1996 model, after changing the filter & motor oil to 10w-30 mineral, there's this annoying slight tapping noise when engine warms up. no noise with engine cold.

Is it possibly a valvetrain noise because the oil is too thin?

I am planning to change it to 10w40 or 5w40 or 5w50 to see whether the noise goes away.

I am in Tampere, Finland

Any comment is appreciated!

Additionally:

The oil level is full

And no warning light of oil pressure

Welcome to the forum

In your video there's a much-more concerning ringing noise... is there a bad tensioner bearing or alternator bearing or is the cambelt over-tight?

Otherwise, I think you're right, sounds probably like valvetrain noise but difficult to say for certain, because mechanical sounds don't record well (ever tried recording a piano and got a clanging noise? :p)

With the FIRE engine, I have heard a tapping noise that sounds like the valvetrain but is actually the little-end (piston pin) bearing(s). The main difference is that valve noise is fairly constant with increased engine revs, where the little-end tick-tock noise goes away when the revs are slightly increased. I solved it by using a slightly-thicker oil. Perhaps try adding an additive ('oil stabiliser') to yours rather than throw away that expensive new oil?

It sounds like a bearing, alternator, water pump etc. Changing the oil maybe unrelated.

I can only hear a minor tapping noise which is pretty normal.

alexGS & SteveNZ: Thanks a lot!

Since the noise happens right after changing oil, I still suspect it's related to oil. Changing oil seems to be the easiest/cheapest try. :) Also here in Finland 10W30 might not be very good in winter time.

I don't know whether I could find the correct oil additives... everything is in Finnish and Swedish, thank god they not always change the lable on the bottle, say e.g. some CRC product looks the same in the front, then possible for me to check information on the internet :)

the 10w30 oil was so cheap only 10 euro /4L . planning to gather old oil into a bottle, since only 200 km.

BTW, did u notice that seems the higher part of the timing belt cover is missing? I don't know whether the timing belt of other UNO is also exposed to the air as mine.

Thanks again for your valuable comments!

4L for 10 euro?! Don't know how quality that one can be...?

Belt cover should be complete, we have exactly same cars, judging by looks, :) and it's complete in mine. I recommend searching and fitting the upper part or the whole cover, if needed.

dozogi: thanks for the information! The oil is a Finnish "big" brand: Teboil. I bought the cheapest mineral one.
