Engine control light and initial running sluggish

My Punto 1.2 starts fine but the engine fault light comes on and the initial running starts to become sluggish until i give it some gas. The light comes on and goes out after starting a couple of journeys later through the day. Other than this the engine is running fine. I took it for an exhaust change and the tech put it in the computer which said O2 sensor? any ideas welcome Thanks, Andy

I'd think it probably said more than that. Also, you probably have 2 O2 sensors.

Best posted in the Punto section -- helpful to know if you have a Mk1 or Mk2, but that the exhaust fitter could just plug in a code reader suggests that it's a Mk2.
