My management light has been on months. Although the car drives fine still is this an mot failure? I have codes for the problems but as I'm borrowing the diagnostics kit I never get a true reading they are always a build up. I am looking to purchase a kit, but not sure what to get. I don't want anything flashy but don't want anything cheap.
The car eats petrol and smells "rich" any ideas?

Dreaded mot due on 14th

Hi mate,

EML is not a reason for rejection. HOWEVER as you say the exhaust stinks, then it's likely that whatever is causing the EML (possibly something such as lambda sensor) will cause the car to fail on emissions.

Most people on this forum use Multi ECU Scan and the appropriate cable for diagnostics. It's a lot cheaper than the proper kit and can do a lot more than one of the cheap generic scanners.

Post the codes you have up here and we may be able to point you in the right direction.

That, but the trick is to delete the codes, drive till the code light comes on, then read again. Deal with the first code first -- one fault will trigger others.

or a group of codes relating to a signle item :)

Im with Alant and Fingers, download MES free edition, get a cable off ebay or a friend, connect up - clear codes - drive to mot - bang it through mot while the light stays off
If your struggling - why not put you location up, a member may help you read codes for beer tokens / cookies / sexual favours who knows! (j/k about last one)
