Right I've had this sound since I bought the car and i wanted to know if i can stop it? Although since having my exhaust it drounds it out a lot :D

Anyway it seems to come from the back of the car, which makes me think its the fuel pump. Does anyone else have this sound which sounds sort of electrical.

Is it speed related, i.e gets louder at speed?

If you switch the ignition on (don't start it, just so you get the lights on the dash lit up) does it do it for 2-3 seconds and stop?

No it doesn't appear to be speed related, and as soon as you start the car it makes the noise. That noise when you turn the ignition on does go off after a couple of seconds.

So i still think its something to do with the fuel pump, but im not sure. [V]

If it makes the noise when stopped, pretty much the only thing it can be is the fuel pump.

So no idea how to stop the sound then? :D

I've considered a new fuel pump but thats just a waste of money and probably would cost a fortune.

no its meant to do that noise innit ?? then that light goes off ??

No im not on about that noise when you turn the ignition, im on about a sound which is there all the time whilst the engine is running, which seems to come from the fuel pump.

Have you ruled out daft things, like interference on your stereo?

Pull up the rear seat, there's a triangular plate there which you can lift to see the pump. You may be able to pin down the noise better.

Could be a fuel line rattling against the bodywork?

clutching at straws now really. Some problems are nigh on impossible to fix via email!
