Ok. I hopped into my 87 Uno Turbo the other day and these things which were working are now not

Horn
Window wipers
Window water sprayer

Does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Btw i have checked the fuses in the fuse box and they all seem to be fine.

Please help!

Window wipers and window washers work off the same switch bank, so suspect a possible problem with these.

Also look at possible earth problems and check for voltage at the components that aren't working.

And double check that the fuses aren't blown and that the connectors behind the fuse box that haven't become loose or dislodged.

The odd thing is that the horn circuit should be live at all times, whereas the wiper/washer circuit is live only when the ignition is on.

I reckon the horn not working is unrelated to the other fault. Check the horn(s) are actually getting voltage - if so, then the diaphragm/contacts need cleaning. If they're anything like mine, they seize from lack of use. Maybe use a jump-starter pack to test the horns.

As for the wipers not working - is the heater fan working? If not, I suggest the ignition switch could be the cause. There is a set of contacts for electrical accessories (turned off during starting) that may not be turning-on correctly. Moving the key a small amount may bring everything to life and tell you that's where the problem is.

really? ok that is odd. i guess it quite possible that they are unrelated because i hardly ever use the horn so could have happened weeks ago without me knowing...

Ive been stuck for ideas and hunting around all the wiring around the dash. i did find two red wires which look like they had been cut (which could quite possibly have been my fault as i had recently taken out a aftermarket tacho and may have absent mindedly cut this also as other wires were red). Anyway i got one end of the wire and bit the rubber off so a good contact point is made and felt a tingle in my mouth so this must be a live wire( the car was off) so this may be my horn problem?

Also yes i forgot to say that the fans did stop working. Where can i find these set of contacts?

Did you check to see if you were getting any voltage at these non functioning items, as suggested two weeks ago? There's no point in wading through wiring if you are actually getting current at items concerned. Most older car electrics are simple. You need a current and you need an earth to make an electrical component function. Check these first to rule out the obvious.

take off panels on steering colum switch for ignition is inserted under key barrell .they give lots of problems i have new one in a box if yoy stuck ,ken .

There is deffinately a current because i could feel i tingle in my mouth when biting the rubber ( similar to the feeling when putting small 9v bat on your tounge)

ok thanks for the tip I will try this :) If it dosnt work and i cant figure it out ill pm you
