Hi all, looking for some advice from those familiar with Ducato's electrics

2005 2.8JTD built as a motorhome (Autotrail Dakota)

Hasn't been used for 10 months but regularly started and batteries connected to a smart charger. Went in for an MOT today and had a call from tester to say that with engine running and when dipped beam is switched on the engine stops - works fine fine on side lights.
Engine re-starts fine after it cuts out - it's just switching on dipped beams that cause's the problem.

The same thing happened two days ago after washing the accumulated crud off it and doing my pre-MOT checks. I assumed, it was water ingress around the headlamps...there was moisture there but a quick spray with WD40 and left the engine running for 15 minutes to build some heat up, all appeared to work normally. But of course, crunch time today, it failed to perform.

This is the first time I've used this garage, so no real idea if they're up to the job and I'm not really wanting to have to pay for any un-needed work or component changes (not suggesting they will!) But any pointers on what/where to look at would appreciated please.

Finally, on top of the battery there is a large terminal/fuse plate - should there be a cover over this? I've noticed in the past, after rain, that this is wet. Hasn't caused any issues previously but it doesn't seem ideal to expose electrics to water and I can't help but wonder is the issue might be in this area.

Thanks!

They should have a cover, but as they fit poorly, they can get left off or fall off. There are fuses on there too, it will pay to keep water well away from anything electical on these! It could be anywhere, sorry to say, not much help!
