Hello again all Fiat 'lovers':)

Can anyone help with this problem please.....

P reg 1.9tds. Running along at no particular speed when ....the engine jolts and sometimes dies. It is not a gradual die off as though out of fuel, it is instant (engine and dash as if switched off ). Strange thing is that when engine dies, pumping throttle makes no difference but depressing the clutch to the floor and then bringing it back up again and then the throttle brings everything back to life ( just as well as it happened twice on the M3 ).
Also....if you take your foot off the accelerator, the rev counter goes to zero ( unless you are idling ), but works okay if using accelerator, and the speedo seems to think it is a wiper arm waving all over the place.

I have checked the battery and connections, checked fuel lines, changed filter but am at a loss what could be the fault, so would really appreciate any help. Cheers!

Have you checked the engine to body earth strap under the bonnet. I had probs with tickover etc. so did a check and found that the earth strap (connected to engine and car body) was shredded, so making a bad earth contact. Once replaced by a longer one i had no more trouble.

Thanks for your help FATNAV (y)

I shall have another good look over the engine and connections and see what I find. I can only assume it must be an electrical fault as the cut-out is always like someone flicks an 'off' switch, as opposed to a sort of gradual fade away like when you run out of fuel etc.
Thanks again.

Hi, Chech the feed to the solenoid on the top of the injector pump, may be a cracked wire or the solenoid may be faulty, Is there any diesel weeping out around the side of the solenoid?:bang:

i wish you luck finding the fault because this was one of ours and its just deteriorated til it just dies (see post turning our hair grey) our local garage and fiats can not find fault so bad now we are part exchanging won't touch fiats ever again

No sign of diesel leaks anywhere but is the solenoid you mention what I always knew as a 'fuel shut-off solenoid'? If so, if that is faulty then that would explain the problems.......
I will keep checking...THANKS :)

Hi,
Turning your hair grey, mines given up that stage and gone straight on to the falling out 'slap-head' bit.
My wife uses the Ulysse for her child-minding, so we need to be able to rely on everything working to be able to get the little treasures.
