Does anyone know if there is a way of leaving the Ulysse [2003 onwards] electric windows a little way open when you lock the car ? We have tried leaving them down 2 or 3 inches and then locking with just the key but they still all close. Obviously they all do it when you lock using the fob.

We have a dog and even leaving the manual rear windows ajar it's insufficient in hot weather. Obviously we don't want to leave the vehicle unlocked, though without the alarm set is tolerable [i.e. by key only]

I have looked through the manual time after time and can't seem to find anything that works !

Help and guidance much appreciated...

 You need to vist you fiat dealer! The auto close was part of a recall that should disable the auto close/open on the window/locking system.(all of the mk 2 fiats it should be disabled) This was part of the summer venting system eg when you returned to the car and the internal temp was high it would open window to vent the car when you unlocked. good news it should be free.

Just rung the Blackpool dealership and spoken to a bloke who has been there six years and he "knows notheeeng". Also doesn't think there is a way to do it, either ! Unless anyone out there knows differently, of course...???!!!

:) well if you look under hints and tips in this section there is some info. also find a good dealer!!! if he has only been there six years he started when fiat stopped selling the ulysse! The problem is when you lock the car the windows go up fine, BUT the bounce back or child safety is normally ignored. so lock car with windows open the system will shut the windows even with child or dogs head in the window! Try it ( please dont use head dog or fingers). I may be wrong and your windows may be still activating using the child safety but when the body comp was changed on my 54 plate this function was removed and fiat explained B4 they fitted it that this would now be removed. Thanks

It was, of course, the blok who had been there only six years not the dealership, and he'd never heard of a recall, that's all. I checked the AA site for recalls and there's no mention of this 'fault' but I guess this might be only for 'serious' issues.

I'm very sorry but I don't really grasp what you are saying. I want to leave the windows open a little when we lock the vehicle with the key and if you know how this can be achieved I'd be very grateful for your insight...

I'll look under hints and tips, of course

:) sorry try to explain:
If (under normal operating with you in the car opening or closing window key in ignition)you put your hand out of the window and try and close or raise the window it will stop going up and reverse because it is being obstructed by your hand.
However you walk away from the car with the window open and lock the car your dog or child could be suffer an injury by the window auto closing system because the safety is not used window will not reverse if a obstruction in the way.(the car guesses that no one is in the car as you are locking it) So fiat etc had to remove the auto window closing from their models
So you should be able to leave all the windows open on your car and lock it. If you cant (which is in your case) The dealer should have already disabled the auto window close system or should have confirmed the window close safety is working correctly. This is only a handful of vin numbers effected. When the computer was exchanged on mine the dealer explained that mine had been done. So when i lock my car now i can leave all the windows open but when i first got it when i locked my car the windows would auto close. Hope this helps

Thanks for the further information. Maybe I should have made it clear that my Ulysse was one which closes its windows automatically no matter what I try to do and has NOT been modified to correct auto-closing of the windows

BUT...

Courtesy of the EV2 forum I have determined a solution to the problem which DOES work. If you want to leave the rear [sliding] door windows open a little for the benefit of an animal you are leaving behind...

1] Lock the vehicle with the key only. Even in the middle of winter you would do this anyway with a beast left inside as you don't want the alarm to go off by way of movement being detected inside
2] Press the 'unlock' button twice in quick succession so that all four windows begin to drop in unison
3] As soon as you see window movement press the 'lock' button. The effect of this is for the sliding door windows to halt pretty much at the place they were at when the single 'lock' command was received by the car. The front two windows, though, continue to open fully.
4] You now have to reach in and put the key in the ignition and turn to the first position. Once you have done this reverse the movement and take the key out - you don't have to go as far as starting the car. This has activated power back to the windows.
5] You can then simply lift the two front window buttons located on the top of the door and they will close fully. The sliding door windows, though, will stay as they are - slightly open !

It sounds trickier than it is. The only thing you have to practice a bit is the pressing of the key fob buttons. Make sure you don't inadvertently set the internal alarm function otherwise Rover or Rex will set the alarm off as you walk away.

This really has saved our bacon as we had stopped using the Ulysse in hot weather due to it not being safe to leave the dog in the car for more than five minutes. Hope this helps other owners and, once more, thanks to the EV2 Forum and its contributors
