The drivers side electric window has stoped working. sometimes it would stop working but would start again but now its stopped completely! - luckly in the shut possition.

If i press the drivers switch i can hear a small "click" noise coming from the glove box! has anyone got any ideas if its something in the glove box thats broken or the motor in the door.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi

Sorry can't offer advice but if you find you need a new drivers side electric window motor / regulator or any other associated parts then I have them available from a 96P Brava (compatible with Bravo).

Please email :- [email protected]

Mine went the same way, except it wouldn't work in hot weather.

I replaced the motor assembly and everything has been OK since. Replacing it was a bit fiddly but can be done in about an hour to hour and a half.

Re: Re: Electric window failed!

so you think its the motor part in the door. how much are these new or from a scrappy? cheers

Re: Re: Re: Electric window failed!

I got the whole motor/winder assembly from Camberley Autofactors for about £55 new.

The second post in this thread has a second hand one up for grabs.

Just been out to the car, i think it could be a loose connection because when i hold the switch and slam the door the window goes for a bit then stops! does anyone know of any particualar part of the wiring that could come loose or is particualy easily broken?

Re: Re: Electric window failed!

I think this is the same problem as mine, except mine wdidn't work reliably in hot weather. I suspected that it was something to do with the motor brushes either wearing or being out of alignment, or some other subtle tolerence type fault in the motor.
By all means check the wiring. Start at the switch in the door and check that it is closing reliably (with a meter), but if you are hearing a click from the door when you press it that a good indication that the switch is OK and power is getting to the motor assembly. If thats the case then the fault is in the motor somewhere and you are really better off buying a new one. My new one was much better at opening the window anyway. I think it had a higher rating, because the window was about 50% faster than it used to be!

If you are not getting power to the switch then you may have a problem with the control box. This is a big green box roughly behind the glove box (it is on mine anyway). These are quite complicated inside and are probably expensive, so be sure that it is at fault before you get a new one.

My moneys on your motor being faulty!

Re: Re: Re: Electric window failed!

If i'm right in thinking this then wooohoo, But the windows relays are behind the glove box, open the glove box turn the 2 or is it 3 levers then pull the panel out and there and behold are a few relays! make sure none have worked loose or give them a little wobble while some one plays with the window switch just mind your hands!

The click you can hear is the power relay for the electric window, should be no cause for concern.

to check that it is the motor at fault, remove the door covers to gain access to the motor.
undo the connector to the motor,
now connect your test meter to the two connections in the block. not the motor side :)

Check that your test probes are not short circuiting or touching the metal of the bodywork, otherwise further damage will occur!!

now turn the ignition on, and operate the window switch.

you should have a positive reading when the switch is in the up or down direction, and negative the other way.

all of the above is based on the window motor having two connections on its terminal block.

Re: Re: Electric window failed!

Ive been out playing with it again. got the green box out from under the glove box, was going to try and get my mums one from here brava but it could get the glovebox off it! i will wait till dad comes home with the maria and see if i can get his!

Thanks too everyone that has posted on here, i will keep you updated.

electric window motor

sounds like the motor to me usually carbon brushes have worn all the way down should be £15 from a scrap yard ive a few complete doors if you need a motor cheap let me know

Re: electric window motor

Fixed it, well sort of! I had a £350 cobra alarm installed in may with window closure! any guesses? its the window closure unit on the alarm!

the power for the motor goes through the closure unit and make the circuit. so i discounected it and joined the wires back up where it was and it now works.

getting the alarm sorted on saturday now! thanks too all those that helped, well worth remembering if it goes again though!

thanks again.
