I have this strange problem with my gp mjet. The back lights brake and city lights dont always work. So i was thinking that this could be due to a weak - mass cable. As i have read that this is a common gp problem.

Does anyone know where the earth connection of the black -cable from the back lightings go to. Or is this a cable that goes directly to the - of the battery?

A real common fault on the GP, to the point i'd suggest yours is probably the same.
The connectors, inside the light fitting over time become corroded.
I would suggest, removing the light cluster and cleaning all the connectors.
Cleaning the ones on the light cluster is pretty easy, but getting inside the ones on the wire plug can be tricky.
If you resort to putting a little wet and dry on the end of a home made implement, please ensure that said implement is not conductive.

On my previous gp 1.4 8v i also had a corroded wire plug connector, so I checked the connectors, but i couldnt see anything fishy. I heard that sometimes there is a weak link between -battery cable and chassis. And you can fix that by fitting a cable between - battery cable and the gearbox. But i dont know if this solution is related to my problem.

If it were a weak link between the battery and chassis, it would be serious enough to affect the whole car, not just the rear lights.

Thats true. Is there an other way to check for faulty connectors besides the visual aspect, since i didnt see anything wrong. Is it possible to measure this with a current meter. Both the left and the right side of the city/parking dont work, wouldnt it be strange that both connectors would be corroded at the same time. I also checked fusebox, but nothing wrong here. Run a check with MES and got these errors B1008 (right blinker) B1021 (tail parking/city light).

When you say city parking, i assume this is what we would call side lights.
This is the first turn of the switch. ?

Do the front ones come on ?
If so, i guess we could rule out a switch problem.

I would also suggest that both sides out is unlikely to be both connectors, however, we can't really rule this out, so personally i would start here first.
To measure any voltages with a volt meter, you'd need a wiring diagram i suppose.

Yes i mean the side lights (first switch from the lever). The front ones do come out. So i checked the connectors and both are looking fine. I also measured the 4 cables from the connector, and there where no differences with left and right side.

could you photograph the connector on the lamp and the plug

Will do that first thing tomorrow. Since it would be unlikely that both connectors have gone faulty, I will also back trace the black -cable from the connectors and make pictures of that connection. Anyone knows where it is "earthed". Thought in the trunk on the right side behind the carpet (where originally the woofer is mounted).
