Hello, apologies if a thread already exists on this subject (I've searched but not found anything)...

I want to remove the OEM 2-din radio and replace with a touch screen DAB, satnav type system.

Does anyone have any experience of fitting such a system on an x250? If so, any and all info will be greatly appreciated!

I haven't yet managed to get the existing unit removed so would appreciate some guidance on any specific tools etc.

Cheers
David

On my 2012 3.0 Euro 5
I replaced with a single din DAB, wouldn't accept a double din, as the original although looks double, isn't.
The shop that did it could only get a double din replacement facia (piano black one) so had to manufacture a blank to fill the hole!

There is an electrical unit/box located on mine where the other din would fit so to speak

There is an AUNA single din radio with touchscreen, navigation, USB, etc. that fits in the upper tray without any hassle.

I believe most, if not all, of the dash apertures with a single-din arrangement can be converted to double DIN by removing the intermediate plastic mouldings with a pad-saw or similar.

My X290 came radio-less, but with two single-DIN pockets partially located by intermediate lugs at the halfway vertical position.

I removed these with a junior hacksaw blade (it's a bit unnerving, but easily done). Patently, re-fitting any original single-DIN radio is then not going to be easily achieved (though is not impossible).

To fit a double-DIN unit you will then definitely need a fascia (to make a neat job - and the correct one for the vehicle needs to be selected), and if the radio doesn't come with one (mine didn't but many do) a cage or fitting brackets.

It is possible to buy the two items above together, as a full fitting-kit.

The base vehicle should have an ISO connector for the OE radio, and most aftermarket kit will be plug-compatible (though you may have to reverse the permanent and switched live, and again, most aftermarket kit has the easy ability and instructions to do this).

See facia on ebay
FIAT DUCATO 2006 ONWARDS RADIO DOUBLE DIN FACIA FASCIA PANEL SURROUND CT24FT23 is like the one I used.

Thanks everyone. I haven't been able to get my unit out yet as I need to find the correct tool. However, mine is with the screen in the top 'din' and the controls in the lower 'din'.
It's a 2014 registered cab, with a swift kon tiki back end - don't know if that makes any difference?
I've thought about fitting the new Ducato cabs infotainment system as it has all I need but I don't know if it's compatible, or whether I can buy it as aftermarket?

i have a double din unit in mine i cut the middle divider out and fitted it i also fitted a controller so the steering wheel controls work it as well the only thing is the odometer now flashes as there is a canbus terminator in the original radio i can and have put up with that for years Cheers Adam

I wouldn't bother with the latest FIAT uConnect DAB/Navigation unit as fitted in the factory, the satnav is brain-dead. Old maps, no way of bulk loading POI, limited functions...... as I found out in my 2016 Benimar motorhome.

I fitted a JVC double DIN unit in our last van, a 2011 Peugeot Boxer based vehicle. The hardest part was finding an adapter to connect the steering wheel controls to the radio. Also, there is no 'accessory' setting on the ignition lock on these vehicles, so having a proper on/off switch on the radio can be important if you wire it to a permanently live feed so you can avoid battery drain.

As others have said, a quick bit of cutting with a saw along with a suitable double DIN aperture adapter are needed but otherwise it's straight forward.

Fiat Ducato 2016 with UConnect 5. The New Ducato is different from the old one as there is no centre plastic bar. They fit a special metal box but it's only single din.

Just fitted a Blaupunkt Double Din Sat Nav to our new motor home. The UConnect 5 Sat Nav unit was terrible :D

You remove the UConnect 5 unit which is single din and the next bit is to fit the double din box. I used the latest kit from Connect2 but did not find it very good as they seem to rely on the facia holding it all in place. To start with you need to remove some of the plastic at the bottom above the heater controls and some from each side. There are stepped sides which should be left in place as I fitted the two brackets in the kit to these by using the four screws. I then used double sided tape to hold everything in place to the box before I drilled the brackets and used pop rivets to fasten them to the double din housing. Watch which way you rivet them .... I had to modify the facia to fit by removing some material from the plastic studs. The clips supplied just fall off so used stick on velcro to hold the facia in place at the top. I also found it easier to remove the top cover so you can see the top of the radio. There is not a lot of room in there so I decided to fit the top after I had got everything in place. Only problem is the two screws that are hidden by the radio. I used velcro for this and then fastened the other end down with the two screws. All fitted and working apart from the steering wheel controls which seem to have a mind of their own. The Connect2 unit I used has four little switches inside. Dip switch 2 set on worked. In all other positions the mileage display flashes. Not found a cure for the steering wheel controls yet :bang:

hi user1
I just fitted a kenwood dnn9150 to my x290 replacing the uconnect5 what a pig of a job!
you should have had 2 little metal black spring clips, these go in place of the front screws on the ipad holder so the only the back screws are used to fit the holder and the new clips allow it to clip down and lock in at the front
anyhow i would rather assemble ikea furniture after 15 pints of larger in a pitch black room with only a butter knife than fit one of these kits again:bang: sod all instructions!
you should have three wires coming out of the canbus interface, one of these should go to the "steering control" wire on your new headunit..this is one of the things that the 4 line instructions do actually say(y), just need to change the dip switch on mine now to stop the clocks flashing:idea:
did you manage to connnct the oem rear camera up? im getting a terrible picture on mine from guessing what the wires were so somethings a miss here..help!

Wondered what those clips were for. Used velcro insted and that works just as well. Also used velcro to hold the facia in place. Dip swith 2 worked for me and stopped the mileage flashing. Don't forget to switch off while you change dip switch settings.

You will now have another problem that you know nothing about or you will if you have the software updated. YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE THE TIME WITH THE ORIGINAL RADIO .... Well done FIAT :bang:

The Ducato 250 lets you change it with the MODE Switch on the dash. Missing on the 290 ..

The top two buttons on the steering wheel don't work so got to send Connect2 some pictures.

I'm not the only one who had troubles then. Took hours to sort out and get fitted properly.

Oppps sorry .. Rear view camera .. The Liaka Motor Home came with a dash mounted rear view camera that works really well. Automatically comes on in reverse. The Blaupunkt Android Sat Nav has an external screen option so the Sat Nav feeds the rear view camera AV1 Input when going forward and the Camera feeds the Auto AV2 Input in reverse it works really well. Also found a number of Apps for the Android. Just have to remember NO GAME PLAYING while moving.

Can you change from NTS to PAL depends what your camera is doing. Not to difficult to sort out wiring. Done it before. Make sure you connect a good earth to the shield of the video signal but only at one end. You can get all sorts of fun connecting both ends up.

Have fun hope you get it sorted ..

yeah tried grounding and not grounding the drain wire makes sod all difference, Im wondering if the oem camera sends a digital signal which is decoded by the head unit..wouldn't surprise me:bang:
going to take off the camera in next couple of weeks and have a look at the business end;)
thought out of the whole conversion fitting the multimedia bits at the end was going to be the most enjoyable part..seems its the biggest headache(n)
I used to be an auto electrician and now am in electronic engineering, I feel sorry for anyone buying a connects2 kit and thinking they are actually going to fit a new head unit without similar background:cry:

Not very relaxing :(

Used a Dremil to make the hole bigger and fit the cage.

Steering wheel controls work but not all of them ( 6 out of 8 ) .. Connect2 suggested putting another head unit in and trying that. Suppose if you were a fitter you could do it.

Fiat may have an answer to time / date change will wait and see

Hope you get the camera sorted :bang:

Don't we just love MH's

Looks like some of the others on this post have given up trying to fit the Double Din unit. Not surprising really. You do start wondering what an earth you are doing. If you take your time though it's possible. You just need to be brave .. :D

X250 and X290 it's possible to fit Double Din. Fit a cage it's easier to see where you are going and what needs cutting away rather than trying to hold a radio / sat nav. I have done both now and the X250 was by far the easiest.

Having a read through my fiat manual last night and it says time is set from the menu button by just pressing it once quickly so it doesn't go into the full menu mode it's the button in the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Will try it over the weekend
Also i love the way fiat have placed the drivers seat to the right to squeeze in 3 seats:bang: call me me old fashioned but I like to sit behind the wheel when driving:bang: had to make up some adaptor plates to put the seat where it should be
Right all packed now and ready to go up north for the weekend to have the seatx covered in black cows skin(y)

:) .. Will give it a try tonight .. Ours are covered in Brown Cow skin but are sitting in a warehouse somewhere on a pallet. MH was ready before seats so they shipped seats separately. Trouble was no one knew they were here . Have a good weekend. Regards User1
