Ducato Double Din

Have just purchased a 2007 Ducato based moterhome. I wish to replace the single din radio with a double din one.

I've removed the old radio and the shelf above it. I'm left with the correct size opening for the new radio to fit in, but theres two plastic lugs in the way.

I cant see a use for them.

Is it ok to remove (saw) them off?

Wasn't happy with the radio that was in it. No iphone, ipod integration or ability to play a DVD so I am installing a JVC KW AVX-740.
