Good evening.

Just joined in the hope someone can help

I have a 2007 pvc motorhome which is the usual white colour for it year. The paint code is 249/f and there are areas of paint coming away from the primer on the roof.

Looking to repaint these myself as it won't be seen on the roof.

Can anyone tell me does the paint on the van have a laquer layer?

Thanks

Pretty sure there is no laquer on the van. Also have a 2007 van and had loads of paint come off the bonnet and wings. Maybe just a poor year for paint finish !.

Hi HappyCamper

The story I was told was that Fiat had a problem with the adhesion between the primer and the colour coat, due to their inexperience with water based paints which were introduced around that time. The worst areas are the front of the roof and the bonnet lid, with heat and weathering eventually causing the layers to separate. Don't go anywhere near a pressure washer ! My own 2008 van has had areas resprayed but it wasn't cheap. I know its no consolation but you aren't alone.

I don't think they used a clear coat. It's a van not a car !

I used a radiator foam roller on mine using Rustoleum on the bonnet and over the cab and the results are ok, I was quoted £800 to spray just those areas but the paint, rollers, masking tape and white spirit ect came to about £100.

Its a 15 year old van so I wasn't looking for perfection. see the video
