I have a motorhome with a 2003 2.8 JTD engine that seems to struggle with even moderate inclines. This is the only vehicle of this type I have driven so nothing to compare it to but I sometimes wonder if the turbo is working.
Is there any way to easily check if its working correctly ?
Thanks

I was hoping for something more technical that whistling when under load.
I`m not sure it should be doing that anyway, sounds like a hose with a hole in it to me, but them I`m no expert in these matters.
Anyone know how to test to see if my turbo works ?
TIA

Get a elm or kkl cable and the demo of multiecuscan or alfaobd then plot the boost and you can see if its working.

Sorry but I don`t know what a elm or kkl cable or multiecuscan alfaobd are !

Maybe I need a garage technician if it can`t be checked for normal operation diy style

Thanks anyway

oh, hang on, just read again, do you mean an OBD reader that plugs in under the dash ?

2.8jtd are very powerful, good engine, if it feels slow then there is something wrong, can't ever remember seeing a turbo fail though. Check all basics first, fuel filter, air filter etc
Have you had a diagnostic check, do you have any warning lights on.? If you can get under and up the back of engine then you need to remove the air intake pipe to inspect the impeller for damage and check for free play. I think it's more likely to be the turbo boost regulator that operates the wastgate or the wastgate that's seized on the turbo due to lack of use.
