Hi, I am out with my camper (Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet 2016) on vacation.
Typicaly In left turn I started to receive a “Insufficient Engine Oil Pressure” message. I checked the oil level few minutes after I stopped and I was confused. Sometimes the dipstick was showing more than max, sometimes the very bottom was dry and upper part wet (I always wiped after the check). After I parked the car in a camp (cabin elevated to have the camper in good sleepung position) and after the car is stopped for few days, I get dry dipstick…
Oil seems to be leaking in this area (see the picture). What could be a problem? Looking for at least temporary fix to get back home (800km). Thanks

That’s not oil, it’s probably diesel as that’s the high pressure fuel pump. There is a union on top that takes fuel to the injectors.

If the bottom of your dipstick is dry, add oil until halfway up the level indicator and get the engine checked for leaks elsewhere.

You might have some oil usage so keep an eye and check the level regularly to see how much it’s using.

Also, try and give the oil filter a tighten in case it’s leaking from that, there does look to be a drop of oil at the bottom of it.

I have a memory an oil leaking from the oil filter on my 2.8jtd. I had checked the filter for leaks when changed, but after several months of minimal use over winter, the vehicle was leaving a trail of oil drops..

When parked oil will drain back into the sump (pan). If oil is being lost when the vehicle is stationary, then the sump drain plug would be the first suspect.
