Does anyone reccomend the conversion for the dual mass flywheel on an Ulysse 2004, alot cheaper if the clutch and flywheel needs replacing ?

I've read that the cars become much more "agricultural" in feel without the DMF but I have no personal 1st hand experience.

;) Did 102k on first clutch in my old 2004 2.0 jtd ulysse and replaced the dmf at the same time as changing the clutch.Clutch pedal lighter and smooth gear changing after( had not noticed how bad it had got over the year). Garage advised like for like (clutch specialist) as
1.He had converted dmf to normal flywheels and the customer had complained "more like a tractor".
2. The only ones he converted are the ones commanly known for problems judder /failing/etc (one thing mk2 ulysse dont have big problems with:D)
3. At the time I had a warranty and if the gearbox packed up they could get out of a repair as the car had been "modified" past fiat spec.
The cost of a conversion kit and a dmf kit is about the same anyway so replaced with a dmf kit. (new owner of my old bus should get 100k out of the new clutch) ;)

I've not actually done a conversion on a uyllsses but have done them on peugeot citroens and renaults as well as many transits. None of these vehicles has been less smooth afterwards. I think it is important to use a proper valeo matched kit and not some mix and match flywheel clutch combination. As you said the conversion kit is vastly cheaper in most cases. A peugeot 308 hdi I did recently cost less for the 4 part kit than the cost of just the DMF. As you are no doubt aware these vehicles are virtually identical to the similar peugeot and citroen models, and they work fine on them. DMFs were invented by LUK and Valeo have reluctantly followed, but I think you can see Valeo's lack of belief by the fact that they actively promote their solid conversion kits! I personally believe that dmfs are a marketing exercise. Work it out. When every car had a solid flywheel a clutch kit cost £50-£250. Typically about £100.Now you need a DMF as well. Add on £300 to a clutch change. Turnover increases dramatically for the clutch manufacturer.
