first you want to change a few program options goto tools, options, dcc: change the ignore method to disabled, i have mine set to auto get file and resume (just less for me to do) also do the connect on startup etc
make sure you have a nickname and name etc filled in so they dont kick you for no username..
look for a file you want somewhere like ircspy.com, in the list of results, look for the #number, to the left of it will be a little icon, click this,it'll copy some text into your clipboard and will bring up a prompt box in mIRC, click ok to the change channels/connect window and wait for the chat room type window to load up. Then paste the copied text into there and press enter.
if you see things within the irc room that you want, look for the persons username, and the packet number (eg #20)
then type /ctcp [username] xdcc send [#packet number]
ie /ctcp rhysb xdcc send #2
sometimes you may need to register in certain rooms.. just go to the main channel window in mirc, type /msg nickserv register [wanted password] [email address] ie /msg nickserv register password

then to login its /msg nickserv [username][password]...i think, havent used it in a while.
