The weld on my drivers door upper hinge has started to fail and the door has started to drop. car is just 3 years old. Is this a common problem? I have had cars where the hinge has become worn but not a failure of the hinge to door weld. Richard

We had this in early 2007 - repaired by Thames Fiat in T Wells and paid for by Fiat.

Never, never had a car with a door falling off before, nor spoken to anyone else with similar problem on 4 year old car!

Hopefully a rare problem, but amazing it should happen at all (but then again it is a Fiat, so anything is possible). Lol.

Just bought an 02 Multipla and it has had the top hinge welded on the door side, but the door still drops a little so you have to pull up on the door when you close it. Not to worried at the moment so will probably leave alone untill door falls off one day.
I am sure I read elswhere that it is a common problem with the factory welds not going through to the inner skin.

Door hinges are an issue on new FIAT vans. They're actually being delivered brand new with freshly broken hinges, so maybe there's a quality issue there.

FIAT say it's not a known problem. Luckily I can point out five vans in the yard (including one just delivered and unused) all with the same problem.

We know it's a problem. FIAT would rather not know!

Ducatos. Same prob on Relays and Boxers - same van from the same factory of course. A crack on the hinge body, not the weld.

The same issue manifested itself on Ducatos in the late 1990's.

Yep, all fixed now. Strange how the FIAT rep expresses surprise at an 'unknown' problem each and every time the same thing arises.

Still good value vehicles if you don't keep them too long!
