Looking at my previous posts you’ll no doubt know that I must have gotten the worst 500x 1.6 diesel cross ever made. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the car, when I had the small 500 before this it was a dream too get one. It’s a 66 plate and was 19 months old when I bought it. Within a new month at 14K miles it needed a new clutch. It’s had new window regulators, new clutch and master cylinder , new clutch pedal assembly inside. , new wheel arch lining, three new multi media head units, it’s been in three times for engine management light with drive mode selector failure, stop/start failure. New crank shaft sensor. Fault first mot with some ball joint. Anyway it’s not was yesterday and surprise surprise it has failed the mot on excessive play in the steering. The dealership called me today to tell my at 38k miles and just under four years old it needs a new steering column. Now my warranty covers it as it expires in 13 days the cost is a staggering £1700. I’m gutted cos I’ve spent three years of paying to now I’m next couple months had it back voluntary terminate. I have driven mainly fiats but this has really worried me with future ownership. I can’t justify keeping this car with such a risk of bills as it’s been never ending. Even the engine light that comes on every couple months will cost £100 alone to reset. Anyway if I get a used 500 it’sa concern with reduced warranty, can’t go into another 500x after all these problems. Anyone else has all these problems with a 500x that I have really looked after. I’ve probably missed of some of the faults.

Wow sounds like you have some kind of Lemon there, your list of fixes is crazy

I've had my 2016 multiair cross plus about 2 1/2 years so far and other than servicing and a trim coming loose over the rear wheel I haven't had to do anything to it - at least not yet!

Your not kidding pal, I forgot it’s needed a new ambient temperature sensor replacement in the wing mirror as well. It’s a real shame because I really love the fiat brand, a lot of friends and family think I’m crazy wanting another Fiat, but I do love the style of them and I get they’re not the most reliable but gee this is at another level. Thinking of handing it back and trying a Abarth 595. I’ve always fancied a abarth so be nice to turn a negative into a positive experience.

I'm not sure if your 500X is on a lease, personal plan, etc. Sounds like it is as opposed to an outright purchase?

Money asside there is no point in owning something, as much as you like it, in which you have no confidence AND fear future bills and time off the road and inconvenience.

You might like to make a detailed list of what has gone wrong, when, repeat failures, inconvenince etc. Build up a detailed case and then go tackle Fiat.

Ask your dealer to take up your case with their Fiat Zone Manager AND you also get in contact with Fiat custmer services.

Options that could come your way from Fiat

a) An free extended warranty
b) option to buy another Fiat with large Fiat subsidy
c) reduced "final payment" on hand back
d) ? ? ?

With your list of stuff Fiat can't really say that you have not got a bad car. To do so would suggest that all 500X models have similar issues/reliability which is clearly not the case and they would be fools to say so.

Press your case and dangle the "I wan't to own another Fiat but ...."

You could also say that you are a member of a Fiat forum/social media website and your experince is not going down well with people there.

All certainly worth a try, be polite and hold firm (as they say).

I suspect that the stock of new and second hand Fiats in the country are swelling with noone really buying in the current climate and any money Fiat/dealers can turn over is better than no sale at all.

Consumers have rights in the UK as well so check how well they're followed in your case. Most of the faults should have been covered by the warranty but the car was bought second hand.

Maybe the car had been within a flood or someone drove it to the sea. Literally there's no other explanation for the complete failure of the electronics. The dealer didn't tell you everything obviously. Something must have happened to it.

Really sorry to hear you’ve had such trouble. I bought mine used with 45k miles a couple of years ago; it now has 75k miles and has only needed servicing, tyres and a battery. I imagine all companies produce a dud car from time-to-time, I guess the question is how frequent they are. You’ve clearly been unlucky, but are you more likely to be unlucky with a different brand, that’s hard to know. If you’ve been loyal to Fiat in the past it might be worth giving them the chance to put it right, in the way s130 recommends above.

I had it similar with a Citroen C4 about 7 years ago. The Diesel engines were meant to have a good reputation but mine began eating its injectors and then the replacements after a period of months later, despite being fully serviced properly. It was burning through cash, with the only thing saving me from it being worse was that the repairs would break so quickly that they were usually within the period the garage would guarantee its work so they had the burden of fixing it. But I had to get rid as it wasn’t reliable transport and cost me in money and stress—you’ll rest easier when this one is gone, no modern car should have that amount of problems.

I hope you have better luck in your next car, Fiat or otherwise.

I agree with S130, approach FIAT, see what happens.

If you have a good relationship with the (or a) dealer, talk to them.

As said above, there are a lot of stock cars around, I'm sure they would be happy to do a deal.

This time of year is a good time, fewer people buy a car at Christmas and you never know, one more may just help the dealer bonus.

Also, a pre reg my be better for you.

If you don't ask, you don't get, has to be better to change than have more stress, things are hard enough as it is.

Good luck and Happy Christmas

I am sorry to hear about all these problems.
5 year owner here since new, 1.6 mtj cross, 190km on the clock (about 120k miles). I have never ever seen a single check engine light. Never. One of the most reliable cars I have ever owned like all my previous fiat cars (alfa 159 tbi, Punto mk1 gt, panda mk1, panda mk2).
I understand that you are feared of owning another fiat but if I were you I would have visited another dealership. All these problems seem too many and unrelated.

Good luck
