i need to get my car going again i snapped the cam belt and did the valves in so i put new valves in i used grinding paste to bed them and seal them and put new head gasket on built it all back up found a fuel like from the injector cylinder fixed that and then got tdc on number 1 piston and put inlet cam with number two cam faceing up and outlet cam 3 faceing up and put the new belt on turned it by hand 6 times making sure it goes all the way around and the belt does not slip then turned the key and it sounds like its trying to start but wont so i tryed bumping it down my street and it still wont start any ideas anyone please would be great to get up and running again

if you were closer then i would give you a hand but im down in south kent lol.

did you check the crank position sensor? also if it is a mk1 did you reconnect the camshaft sensor

is it turning over and spluttering or turning over and nothing?

lol its turning over but nothing happening it back fires when fuel fills the cylinders but just wont fire up iv cleaned the cam sensor and the bottom senor is clear for crap

sounds electrical. have you checked all the earths in the engine bay are connected?

i know all the earths are connected as i didnt disconnect any execpt the one on the cams but i know i have one loose on the back lights but thats been loose before the car broke lol but ill make sure i give them a good clean and put them back on ill clean all connects up and try it again

when piston one is at tdc does that mean inlet valve on no'2 should be open and outlet no'3 should be open if so then that maybe my problem as iv got them closed i seen a diagram before that show them open i was told that they had to be closed by a mechanic but i thought it was a bit strange so i tryed it and the cams went all the way around should i try the other way
