hi guys, well il start by saying i am absolutely gutted,, yesterday i swapped my vectra sri for a fiat coupe 16v turbo, i checked over the car and it seemed pretty mint, yer a few scuffs but nothing serious, i found the car on pistonheads and contacted the seller asking him if he was interested in a swap, he returned my mail and agreed that he was interested,
anyway, after travelling 170 miles to do the deal, on my return journey the worst happened..... cam belt slipped and to cut a long story short, smashed the valves and pistons to smithereens, i took it to my mate who happens to be a fiat specialist and took the head off and declared it a write off within moments, he said that it would cost just as much to get it fixed as to buy a new coupe,, oh the bloke was all apologetic but not accepting any liability for the damage. As for the description of the car,it was pretty brief, just that hed spent a small fortune on it recently to get it through a fresh mot which it has.
The guy had very little service history with the vehicle which was my biggest f~~# up but my car had very little either., the car appeared absolutely fine , no knocks rattles bangs or smoke, if it had i wouldnt of touched it, im not a mechanic but i do know the basic warning signs! my mechanic mate said that it looked like the cm belt was newish but it was probably the tensioner bearing that wasnt set correctly.anyone got an engine block???!! thanks guys

New engine block?, All you need is a new head and new valves (depending on how many got bent). This would be by far cheaper than transplanting a donor engine.

Especially as you probably won't know the donor engines history and would have to do a service and change timing belt and tensioner just to be safe.

I dunno, mention of damage in the first post to the pistons so the bores and pistons could be goosed :(
I have had an Integrale engine apart for a rebuild before (more or less the same lump as the one in the Coupe) which had a cambelt go - tensioner actually - and bores were fine, pistons fine, new valves put back in original head (fortunately no damage to the head) but 2 were conrods bent (n) so whole bottom end of engine was rebuilt at the same time, tripled the bill in the end.
Worth it though, owner was well chuffed

well the valves arent just bent, they snapped! smashed holes in 2 of the pistons and generally way beyond repair, so i need more than just a head! yes the pistons are "goosed"! so gutted,as i love the car, only owned it for a week

Oh dear, need another engine, not so difficult to swap, but you will do all the tensioners and belts on the replacment engine while its out.

Real bad luck.
