Does the engine mount need to be removed to take out the alternator ??? Cos my partner isnt sure neither am i . i hope it doesn't have to . any advice will be welcomed thanks

i found when changing alternator that dropping it slightly helped get to other bolt,

loosen back one you can get to to push it forward loosen belt should get in with spanner if i recall

You can struggle without taking the mount off as that's how I did one in work, but it is a major struggle. If I remember correctly they are 16mm's for the alternator.

Hi

I have changed my alternator twice with the mount still in place but it is tight and a previous garage may have put a shorter bolt in.

Bolts come out ok, but to get the bolt back in you can struggle for ages, or loosen/remove the mount.

Best way is to remove the bolt, then just cut it down a touch. Still fiddly to get in, but saves having to touch the mount.

Beware, If you decide remove the bolt holding the mount to the chassis (in order to lower the engine), it passes through an alloy sheath which can corrode and seize to the bolt. Turning the bolt then rips the rubber out of the mount. Meaning a new mount is needed

I'm talking about the bolt which goes through here

Have a new mount to hand before undoing that bolt

Either that or the steel plate on the body can be badly corroded. Ignoring bad threads here can lead to engine dropping down on one side ? guess how I know!
