Sounds like a daft question; all steel bodied cars rust don't they? Apparently not; I've just sold my 1994 Citroen XM Estate and for all that needed doing to it, apart from the exhaust (which by its nature, going from very hot to cold and wet would rust) there wasn't a spec of rust on it. Could anyone advise me how good Multipla's are in this regard? Fiat have made some beautiful looking cars, but to be fair their build quality (mechanical and electrical) wasn't always that good.

I backed off from the Multipla in Aberdeen that I'd posted about. Previous owners report had already made me wary; the clincher was the seller telling me that neither sunroof would open. "Probably just a relay" (he said):chin:

yea, most fiats have been galvanised since the tipo/tempra (which was only part done :chin: )

ive had 4 mid 90's Fiats, and the only rust theyve had is in mud traps where previous owners havent cleaned them out

and even then, they werent to bad

Externally they look fine but get underneath and after about 5 years all the overlaps on the floor panels have got rust starting. I am afraid that like most modern cars - galvanised or not - salt gets in where the panels flex and lifts the underseal.

Lets face it Fiats are made in a warm country - they are better than they used to be but they do not withstand the salt on our roads in the same way as a german built car.

Walxoyl the underside every year and you may just hold it back for 15 years but I bet you cant.
