My '06 Stilo has a few minor issues that could be related. Can anyone join the pieces and help out with the likely problem? Solutions welcome :worship:

1) My brake / clutch fluid runs to minimim every two weeks (top up with dot 4!)

2) When ticking over the rev counter is always on 8 and chugs up to 12 every 20secs or so.

3) The accelorator is very light while the clutch is quite heavy to depress.. and biting point is near the top / release.

4) Occassionally I cant engage the gear and so clutch needs to be released and tried again.

5) Squealing on the rear passenger side (brakes in contact with wheel?)

Does anyone think this is a Clutch problem.. Will it need replacing and is the gearbox likley to be shot aswell  How costly could a fix be?

welcome to FF.

somethings seriously wrong there, check all 4 brake calipers for signs of leakage, failing that could be the cluch slave cylinder

probably dirty throttle body, if its a petrol... link in my sig ;) could also be spark plugs

suggests clutch is worn, might be worth bleeding it first (in the Stilo Section guides)

5) Squealing on the rear passenger side (brakes in contact with wheel?)

could be caliper sticking, brake pads low or everything just needs stripping cleaning, lubricating and rebuilding.

i think some of it is clutch related... decent clutch kits (LuK) you can get for <£100. should be looking for around £100 for fitting.

VERY unlikely g/box is shot too.

sounds to me like the ol' girl needs a damn good service and a little TLC. find yourself a reputable independent garage or go get an 'Inspection' done at your local fiat place... it will give you a better idea about the overall state of her

Thanks for taking the time on that buddy. Just given it a service paid £240 but none of these issues were picked up or resolved. They replaced filters, replaced oil, cleared petrol tank, topped fluids, checked spark plugs and brakes. So this probably leaves me the leaky clutch slave and dirty throttle and to bleed the clutch.

Agreed? Wish me luck. Ill deal with the squeaky brake pad another time.

where did you get your service done? mate of a mate or reputable establishment?

id be very surprised if they didnt pick up a leaking caliper, having said that (but without wanting to make excuses, as any mechanic worth their salt should be able to tell) they can *sometimes* be dificult to source especially if the vehicle is wet underneath, water looks a hell of a lot like brake fluid when on a crudded up caliper.

Also a lot of it is mechanics opinion. Generally speaking a minor fluid leak is nothing to worry about but should still be noted. where as any brake fluid leak should be picked up and rectified as a matter of urgency.

Well done to you for taking note of the fluid level and correcting it though. so many people i know would just drive it regardless.
