Technical Dipstick

Hi all while checking the oil on my 2004 2.8 Ducato motor home I noticed the dipstick doesn’t go into the hole correctly I believe this is the wrong dipstick as no oil is showing on it as I believe it doesn’t reach far enough due to not being able to be seated correctly. Any advice on where to get the correct one? Thanks

@Conorg having looked closely at the photo of your dipstick, and other visible engine compnents I am rather puzzled. I have owner a 2006 2.8jtd from new, and II have a photo of a former members 2.8jtd from which the intercooler hoses, and engine cover, had been removed for access. After making allowances for the parts removed, I can match my engine to photo, almost exactly. I am unable to make the same match the hose arrangement on your photo.

It may be that your vehicle is older than suggested by the registration date. Please check the VIN plate. The first three numbers of the VIN indicate the Ducato model. They will be either ZFA230........, or ZFA244......... Also on the VIN plate the engine type should be shown after the heading "Motore". If your ingine is a 2.8jtd, then it should read 8140.43s. The "s" suffix denotes the common rail jtd version, as dstinct from the earlier 2.8idTD engine.

Yes the dipstick doesn’t go into the pipe at all hence reason for needing the correct one
