Hi, we only bought our multi 3 weeks ago and yesterday the timing belt went. In the service history there is a reciept for replacement at 75,000miles and the car has only done another 20,000 since this, so it should not have gone. Can anyone advise us on what to do. Breakdown mentioned about putting a similar fiat engine in, a second hand one. We are gutted and car-less and completely unsure what to do, please help!!!

where did you buy the car from? if it was from a dealer/ trader you may be able to get them to help with costs of repair etc? If not, have a look on ebay, there are usually engines for sale on there but make sure the engine code is the same so that you know everything will fit, and make sure you change the timing belt!

Good luck

Goodness Me, if you have just purchased it from a dealer there must be some sort of retail law governing the sales of second hand cars etc. If however, you purchased privately then i'm afraid it's a very expensive garage bill i'm afraid, sorry.
However, it's not usually the belt that snaps, it's usually one of the other components, belt tensioner etc!
Good luck with it all..

Hi, Please correct me if Im wrong but isnt it recommended you fit the full timing belt kit with multis as the other bits that go with the timing belt are only plastic. I know it doesnt help your situation as you had no way of knowing but maybe someones only fitted the belt and not fitted the full kit to save a bit of money and then the timing belt gone because another parts failed. Maybe a warning to all of us to fit the full kit not just a belt. So sorry to hear about your multi though and hope its back up and running soon. :(
