Just been for a check up at the dentist and it cost me £15! Been a student I think this seems quite expensive. Anyone pay more for checkups?

Not been to the dentists for like 10yrs... My dad goes quite often and he's always complaining about the cost.

Lets be fair anyway eh sarah, if it's too much it's not like you'll pay ;)

I had a check up 2 weeks ago, cost me £15 they said I have two Cavities whicih require root canals which will cost me £150 each.

For the past month I've had 24 hour headaches and have been living on Painkillers, for the 3 mights in a row I have not slept at all because the pain in my head is too great.

Sending off a HC1 form now to see if I can get this treatment done, if not I'm going to go Hospital because I'm currently incapable of working properly or concentrating on anything for more then 2 minutes.

my check-ups are free and the last time i went i paid £12.12 for 2 fillings

they sent me an updated charges sheet a while back, i not bothered looking at it

NHS dentistry charges changed on April 1st. There are now only 3 prices, rather than the 400 or so prices they had before.
If you are a student in full-time educaiton and are 18 or under you are exempt from the charges. See http://www.nhs.uk/England/Dentists/DentalTreatment.cmsx
Trancendental - if you have cavities and go for the "emergency" option, they will do what's cheapest. Which is generally extraction. Root canal surgery is more difficult and longwinded, so it's also more expensive. Root canal also can be prone to problems in the long run, particularly in the larger teeth.

If you are over 18 Im guessing you havent filled in a HC2 form which allows you to have free dental care while a student?

My Bro just had a root canal done and it cost him £90 for 25 minutes work  I think I'll become a dentist, anyone want to sit for me so I can get some practice in ?

I agree with Sam, your bloody lucky, my last check up cost £65, tooth extraction (it was a wisdom, ouch) £85 Im also having a brace fitted in a fews weeks (yeah i know, im gonna be the oldesat geek around  ) ..and thats going to cost me 2.5K
