Totally varies from person to person. Not declaring could lead to your policy being invalidated.

I had a dual exit exhaust, modified rear lights, alloys, and an induction kit on my corsa c ,when i smashed into someone the insurance people said that becuse i modified the car they would take the extra cost of the undeclared mods from the £4,200 settlement fee of my car.

i would advise letting them know

You were lucky they paid out at all, :)

I would say either declare the mods and be prepared to pay extra or leave your car standard.

Yup your best to declare, i declared a whole load of stuff i hadnt had done and would be doing over the yr, so that i dont get stung every time i had to add something on. ie just got new stainless system today if i had to declare that individually it would cost £17.50 doc fee, + £20-30, all in i payed an extra £60 in doc fee for change of plates, exhaust, alloys, lights, cosmetic mods, air filter, suspension.

yes BUT they are well known to change their mind, one day its one price, the next day they won't insure you atall

So your saying not to declare? Or only to declare after you've done it possibly making them say your insurance is void and they will no longer insure you?

If they say NO when they phone the first time, then you either need to change insurers or live with the fact you wont get your new mod. If they say YES and quote you a price, you ask for it in writing or for them to hold it against your account, or simply say yes go ahead with it. If its a silly price then do the same as if they said NO.

Always declare
If you dont and have a total loss or major claim insurance assessers will veiw your vehicle as not the one they have on cover and almost certainly not pay out for your damages or for any third party claims against you.
Think of it as if you dont declare mods your probably not insured,
Same also applies if yor on parents insurance and not stated as the main driver (and you are) could also be on a sticky wicket when (if) you have a claim.
Sorry guys but thats how it is .
honesty is best policy.

well they're already done. It was insured on a provisional and I wasnt really driving it, but now ive passed and im driving it, i dont really wana push my luck. Except....as stupid as it sounds, I dont know what I have to say to them, I dont know wat alloys they are etc

They will want to know the size of the alloys and if they are Fiat ones or aftermarket.

Thats normally about it, :)

I dont know what size, they're fiat ones...they came with the car. I was told they're gt alloys?

How about the lowering? Apparently its lowered 30mm, does that sounds right? lol noticed I know nothing yet?? :p

not sure id bother declaring the alloys, cos they were available as an optional extra, but that also may mean if you declare them they wont charge for them, or charge only the feee to change your details.

and just tell them its been lowered 3cm, they might not add anything for that.

Ok thanks, well, ive tried calling and said I was thinking about 30mm lowering and 14" alloys??? *my bf told em to say that* they want to know value of alloys and cost/value of springs and lowering

£149 for the alloys apparently. Still need to find price for the lowering and springs first tho

All I said was alloys and that I think they would be 14". I questioned the £149 and said they were just an optional extra when the car was new..but I have to phone kwik fit, who phone southern rock....
