Just umming and arring about whether to fit an aftermarket exhaust on my 899 cinq.
It's a straight swop in terms of where it clamps on to the body, although it's looking like I might need a reducer to attach it to the mid pipe.

The current back box is getting shot at now, and it's gonna need replacing one way or another - but I don't see the point in staying stock when for similar money I can get a barely used aftermarket one.

First thing is - do I declare it as a mod? given that its designed specifically with my engine in mind and it's a direct replacement.

Secondly will it affect my premium much? (first time driver - held licence for 10 months, hence zero no claims, but age 24...).

shouldnt cost much if your 24.

I'm hoping not - I might ring them up on Monday and explain the situation to them.
I'm with AA (underwritten by fortis), and they were good to me when i swopped the tin pots out for sporting alloys - didn't charge me anything extra, and were just happy that I had called to declare it...

well it's a dtm back system for a 899cc - twin pipe model... so it's kinda beyond stock stock... but fingers crossed they wont bum rape me too much for it :p

They may want a definite bhp increase confirmed by the manufacturer. I was with Tesco and they asked for this and I had to email Supersprint for confirmation and forward it to Tesco before they would insure me. Was mid policy and not covered but thankfully Supersprint were great and responded within hours.

hmmm.... not a bad idea, I shall get on that straight away ;)

Well I rang my insurers, and explained that I was putting a straight replacement exhaust made by peco on the car.
They basically asked me if it was going to increase the engine power, which I had already emaile peco about -and because my engine is such a low capacity the effects will be all about sound and looks rather than power.

They said they're not concerned with it, so no extra fees for me.
I also asked about changing my bumpers from the stock black rubber ones, and they said that so long as it's a fiat cinq bumper (no bodykits) I can put whatever colour / style (inc abarth) on that I wish, and that I only need to inform them when and if I start doing things like sideskirts :)

Good news :)

Couldn't agree more. If you have an accident and they test the BHP to wriggle out of a claim you could have problems. Email the company and ask them to confirm the increase/decrease etc as you may regret not dong it one day. Still have my email from Supersprint stored away in both electronic and hard copy (just in case ;))

Would be silly if they had increased it. After all, how many people have their brake discs/pads replaced with GENUINE fiat parts? And how many batteries are replaced with GENUINE fiat replacement parts.. same for tyres and suspension parts.

Some leaway should be given, providing the part is able to perform the job at least to original spec and is E-marked (i.e. legal for UK use) then what is their problem?

Many Tipo parts are now simply not able to be purchased from Fiat. :(
