This has all but stopped working since I upgraded from an ADSL modem to a router and I can't work it out at all :bang: Whatever connection setting I choose, the hublist refuses to download and I'm not sure what I should be typing in for any of the advanced settings. Thoughts please :)

Please note - this is only for downloading legal freeware stuff, obviously :p

EDIT - I found this but I'm not sure what they mean. Can someone translate it a little simpler please and tell me what I need to do. Thanks :)

No passive doesn't work either :( I've allowed it connection to the net via the firewall and it downloads the version number and used to work after a fashion on my laptop but now it won't even find a hublist and on laptop (which has 3-4 favourite hubs), will connect to them but only find very few matches per search (marginally better if I turn the firewall off for five mins).

And yes Custard, it's since I upgraded from just modem to wireless router.

Hmmmm it's at this point I suddenly fear my router is too simple to be able to specify which ports should be open/ closed. It's a Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG and I can't seem to find any obvious way of opening/ closing ports.......

find which ports DC++ uses and allow them to be forward to the internet on your router.

and i hope you know how unsecure P2P applications are, i.e DC++, Kazaa, limewire etc etc

Ok, I went through all this with Helz last night - got into the router config page, went through all the options, but nothing came up that referred to port-forwarding - we tried all the usual suspects, firewall options, NAT, Virtual servers, etc. I even tried to get in on remote, to have a look myself, but again, the option didn't seem available

Then had a look on Google, and an eBuyer review seemed to state that it has to be done via some 'advanced login' - again, this option wasn't there :chin:

Then went to the Dynamode support site, which was crap - found a manual, but not relevant to the router in question.

Will have to see what Helzie says - she was adamant no such options existed ;)

EDIT - that is the wrong router - she has the EG version, we found the manual for the G version, which looked totally different on the gateway/config page. If those options had come up, then it would have been easy.

Stuart, can you not use remote desktop to help Helz??? Instead of logging in remotely???

Well, I could - although at that stage, we decided the options we were looking for just weren't there [Helz isn't exactly a newbie at PCs] hence why she will contact their support site direct.

Don't you mean remote assistance instead of remote desktop anyway? To set up remote desktop would mean opening up ports 3389, setting up IIS, plus she would need XP Pro I think. Just logging into the router via the remote port seemed such an easier option :p

If the option exists on the router then you could point the DMZ to your PC.

This means your PC sees everything but it's also very high risk as it negates the very protection a router normally offers (although it's no worse than having a modem attached) :)
