Stay away from other cars, that's all I can really suggest. The further you follow behind other cars the better off you'll be. Of course you'll get some knob who overtakes you and then feels the need to cut back in front and shower you with stones as I my wife had the other day but that's just life.

i do keep a good distance from any car in front, but when on the dual carageway then you get loads of cars overtaking..im driving 60 mph on average..so im getting all the damage on the side [not the front] and being glossy red in colour does not help ...every stone chip = a silver mark on the car ..ill just have to live with it, but im still wondering if im getting more than anybody else ..?

For some reason , red Fiat/Alfa paint is very prone to chipping. Check out the Alfa forum, Mito section. People are counting hundreds of chips on their Alfa red Mitos, some only a few weeks old.
I'm paranoid about stone chips and always try to keep away from the car in front, but quite often oncoming traffic will throw up stones. I reckon sometimes on the motorway it's best to stick to the fast lane, more space, less lorries etc.
I do wonder if the paint needs to harden, as my Red Panda has very few chips. I barley used it for the first year of it's life and just stuck it away in the garage.

Stone chips are unavoidable unless you pay a grand or two and laminate the whole car with something like paint shield. I wish i'd have got paint shield (like a vinyl car wrap except it's transparent) check out my bumpers and side skirts, this was 5000 miles ago after just 10,000 miles, I'm too scared to look now! I know the Abarth has bigger wheels etc, but i've had this kind of damage on every car i've owned, must be the Welsh roads hey

They do seem really bad on the red cars, and I've noticed a load on my car too. It's just part of driving lately with the idiots cutting you up etc.

Get a touch up stick would be my advice. (y)

Yes Ive got a fair few on mine, one largesish one on the bonnet and lots of tiny ones all on the drivers side, so probably as already stated due to overtaking cars cutting in too soon. Prats. The NO blue shows them quite badly as they come up white. Ive got a touch up kit and do any I find every time I wash the car. Ive wondered about getting Chips Away in to do the worst ones maybe every 18 months. Anyone done that? And if so what sort of cost are we talking? It seems worse since the snow and the roads were gritted, leaving a lot of small stones on the road. I didnt get anything like as many chips over the summer / autumn last year when I first had my car.
I think the only solution seems to be to go faster than everyone else, all the time!

A couple of chips on the bonnet, and a few scratches on the sides. The 500 is black, so it's pretty frustating but no regrets.

I have covered nearly 22,000 miles so I guess that is part of the parcel.

I'll be getting it waxed and treated professionally as it is being put up for sale.
