Forgive the stupid question, but I need to ask it anyway...

I've been working on changing the head gasket on a P reg Cinq (899cc engine). You can see the state of it in the attached pictures and how it looked after I cleaned it.

I've got a gasket set similar to the attached pic (part circled in red) which contains 8 'bolts' or 'nuts' that seem to have a rubber/nylon piece near the thread. My question, is where on earth do they go?

I can't see anything obvious in my engine apart from where the push rods sit.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

Afraid the picture is of a different gaskets set as I couldn't find a pic of the one I have. I have a small bag containing 8 of these seals/bolts/nuts that I'm not sure where they go.

A lot of elbow grease, a cloth with some engine degreaser on it and a tiny bit of brasso at the end to remove the really stubborn material.

The valve stem seals, on your cylinder head, remove the valve spring, and you will see them where the valve goes through the head, they stop the oil going down into the cylinder - when they fail, oil will leak down [usually when engine isnt running] into the cylinder if the valve is open, or onto the back of the valve, when engine is run it will produce lots of blue smoke as the oil burns off

This is a generic pic of what they are, and where they are, no valve spring here unfortunatly
