We have a Ducato Roller Team Camper 707 that cross charges (once the caravan side has enough charge) to the engine battery when we are plugged into mains. However, at the same time we also have a Sterling B2B that the kicks in sometimes when it realizes the engine now has enough charge to cross back to the caravan battery oops? Does anyone else have this problem. It does all settle when both batteries reach full charge and go to " float level".

Roller Team put in the cross charge to the engine as standard. I put in the standard Sterling B2B for when driving, I have done it before, it is simple and straight forward. Neither is wrong as such, and there is only a problem when on mains connection, which is understandable. The b2b does not realize its not the alternator charging the engine battery...it goes hey I've got lots of charge I'll charge the caravan until its charged...

Do you know what type of charger roller team installed? Dumb or clever?

My first thoughts are if both batteries go to float charge when plugged in then sounds ok. If originally fitted charger is clever then maybe switch off your Stirling b2b when hooked up to mains and roller team charger functioning.

Wow b2b chargers have got a lot better in a very short period of time(-:

I think you will get a better charge of both batteries if you turn off the Stirling b2b when hooked up to mains power.

Just remember to turn Stirling b2b back on when not on mains, may be attach a label to hook up lead saying TURN ON Stirling.

Best wishes

Jack

Not sure of the charger, the B2B does not switch off, its fit and forget I think, even the RT charger has no switch just a plug to remove. Normally I only use the B2B, we do have Solar as well. But with Covid the van is more stationary so I was plugging in to charge occasionally when I noticed this problem. When I bought the van I noticed the charger plug was removed which I thought odd, maybe they had B2B as well?

If both chargers have decent displays showing both batteries reach float charge it is probably ok.

Some b2b chargers can be controlled by a phone app look into details for your Stirling system see if you have any control.
