As I don't want to cut into my existing parcel shelf, firstly because they won't hold the speakers and secondly because I want to put it back to standard when I sell it, I've decided I'm going to buy some MDF and make on myself. However, I'm not sure as to where I can find the materials I need.

Obviously, I'll need some wood, but where would I go about getting some carpeting for it, glue for sticking it down and the pins for it to pivot. Also after some velcro to hold my sub in place. Oh, and one of those plastic tubes that lets the air through into the boot.

Sorry for the vagueness but I had a quick search and couldn't find anything.

ok well if your putting 6x9's in the parcel shelf you will need to raise your speakers (put on to some pods) make the pods out of wood and fiberglass so that the speakers are facing the front of the car this way the sound from the 6x9's are not just hitting the rear screen and going no where and your sub drowning out the treble

this was my first set up now i have a full boot install :p
ill try post other pics on here later to show you what they look like from the front

With that much gear in the boot, it is worth making the parcel shelf readily detachable. That way, if you intend to park in a rough area, you can put the original shelf on so no-one is aware of your uprated audio system.

As for making a parcel shelf, lay your old parcel shelf over the MDF board and trace round it. Cut inside the lines, try for fit and file down any bits that catch. Cut holes for speakers and check for a fit. Use a thin, flexible felt to cover it, using carpet spray adhesive to fix.

Well in my first Punto it came with a boot build, and when I took it apart I looked at how he'd done it so I'm ok when it comes to securing the 6x9's, just make sure they've got an extra bit of support and wood to drill into underneath the main shelf. The thing I'm stumped on is the two pivots that hook into the bodywork to allow it to pivot and hold it in place. What would I do about those?

And is a trip to Hobbycraft required for the covering, or would Halfords or Homebase do it instead :p

As for the picture given, I was going to angle the wood underneath so that they faced inwards, but still wanted them to be discreet so you can't see them. Was going to fully cover them with a thin material hopefully, and the bit of tubing I was after was to just let a bit more through.

carpet i used was from any car shop or ebay proper speaker box carpet i think the most you will pay is £15 for it
parcel shelf dose pivot like a normal shelf

plus if you have a ported sub in the boot you have to be careful that the air from the sub dose not damage your 6x9's by being pushed up to far from the air coming out of the sub

thats what you want to cover it. you also want 18mm or 22mm MDF, Ive made one...it needs to be thick if your gonna put allot of power on it (18mm plus carpet brings it to level with the Grey plastic in the back)

IMO the speaker pods erupting out of the parcel shelf, look a bit naff...

easiest way to do it, is to get old shelf, lay on MDF draw round with pencil. cut INSIDE the line (this allows for thickness of carpet). then see if it fits. needs to have clearance all round, if it dint, then when you carpet it, it wont fit. any extra wood on it remove with a file/dremel/sandpaper/whatever you have to hand. draw holes for speaker, cut em out, CHECK SPEAKERS FIT!!!, then cover in carpet, best stuff to use is £2 carpet adhesive spray from homebase (green can) and "copydex" white glue in white pot applied with a brush (has red lid) also from homebase. copydex is for the awkward bits, (you'll know what i mean when you try, bits that just dint want to stick, put copydex on, apply pressure for 5 Min's and its PROPERLY stuck down)

i used black masonry weathercoat paint from homebase (tester pot). cheapest black paint anywhere, £1.50 for 750ml

good luck

need any more advise post back, I'm sure well be able to help! :D

P.S. this WILL NOT lift up with the boot unless you have heavy duty gass struts, if you want to have it hinged, set a bolt in a block of wood in the corners, put the bolts in the recess, this will hinge it. mine dont hinge WAYYY to heavy lol
