When the car is stationary and you get in or out of it there is a creaking
at the rear, does this mean the shocks are worn?? MoT is due soon
so would like to sort it before it goes in.

its ur drums brakes ect

mine past an mot like it but only just

Mine does that aswell, sounds like the spring/shock to me...(have a check if they are leaking)

Mines definatly not me brakes...

Passed the MOT no probs. :)

my bet is the rear brakes. why not do an HGT conversion since it needs new brakes anyway?

HGT Conversion, is that rear discs as oppossed to drums?, If so that would be cool, how much would that cost, and how easy is it to do??

handbrake

you tried getting in and out with the handbrake off?

when i get in and out the car with the hand brake on there is a little creak from the back of the car.

I think this is because i add 8% of the total weight to the car with me in it so when i get out it does try to move slightly (laws of physics, every action has a equal and opposite re-action...thingy)

so the wheels are trying to move but with the handbrake on only "gingerly" (my house has a flat drive) they can just move but the drum brakes creak due to some friction.

did this sort it then

did this sort it then

handbrake off?

Re: did this sort it then

Does n't creak with the handbrake off!!!

Re: did this sort it then

drum brakes on mines do exact same. even louder when parked on a hill!

Re: did this sort it then

Trev, yeah, disks instead of drums.

might not need new brakes, though i dont remember my 1.4 being particularly creaky when i get in and out.
