Hi, i was looking for a parking spec in morrisons car park yesterday and as i was going around, some fella didnt giveway to me and we collided . Obviouslly it was his fault and he addmitted that to me and my husband at the scene. Anyways...i'm insured fully comp with LV, and later saturday afternoon they left a message on the answer machine asking me do i need a courtsey car BUT when i looked on my policy it says that my insurance doesnt include a courtsey car....Am i still entitled to it or would i have to pay or would it be claimed off the fella who collided with me??? I'm confused..

I would imagine that you arent covered by your insurance company as part of the policy but they'r gonna try and sell you hire of a couretesy car; either that or the other car's insurance will have to cover it being his fault

Thanks for your reply i really appretiate it..I was wondering also has anyone ever been in this situation like me if so what happened...did you have to pay for a courtesy car or was it claimed on third party's insurance? ALSO..I have legal cover on my insurance policy and shortly after the incident happened a solicitor phoned me, the question is , is do i have this solicitor dealing with it and also do i have to get another solicitor involved (one of my choice) ? OR just have the one solicitor who phoned me? sorry i know it sounds confusing .thanks (in advance) x

i would call monday and confirm the provision of the courtesy car
are you paying up front
are you paying at the end
are they planning to 'try'and get the costs back from the other party and if so check if you have to cover the costs if they dont get it
if there is even a hint you maybe out of pocket then tread carefully

Make sure you get pictures of the car park using your camera. Despite him admitting it was his fault it does not mean his insurance company will try it on and blame you.

I have been in a similar situation a few years ago, whereby some old dear smacked straight in to the side of my car. She should have given way to me at a junction but didn't, she was fixing her glasses. Her insurance company tried to blame me, this was despite her admitting it was her fault, the highway code does not apply to car parks they said, which was absolute bull, confirmed by the police too. I took photos of the junction in the car park and sent them to my insurance company, her insurance had no choice but own up.

As for the courtesy car, you may have to pay, but you may be able to claim it back from the other persons insurance company, i think they call it, out of pocket expenses, maybe!!

Good luck Clair (y)

I'm insured by Elephant and have been in this situation before.

The hire car should be yours free of charge. As the other driver is at fault then every single cost incurred by you should be fully refunded. Your insurance company should cover the cost of everything and then recoup the money from the other insurers meaning you shouldn't have to pay out anything (even your excess if you have any on your policy).

With Elephant also they provide you with a like for like car. For example when my Evo VIII was in for repair after someone reversed into it outside my house I was given a Nissan 350z for hire. That way you don't get stuck with a poor 1.0 corsa for the duration of the repairs (unless it's a 1.0 corsa your having repaired lol).

You should get everything you require at no extra cost to yourself and not be out of pocket at all. Particularly when it was some other idiot at fault.

Hi yeah it the bumber thats badly damaged, but the third party is claiming that i was entering a junction but he was coming out of a junction and didnt give way. i'm dead upset why do people lie??
