Technical Coupe non turbo....stopped working

Hiya i am new to this forum (usually on fiat coupe forum) could do with some help.
I have a 96, 2 litre, non turbo 16v Coupe. Been a dream to drive for years with no problems but for the past month been having this problem.
It started just cutting out and not starting, was showing petrol empty but everytime i was sure there was lots of petrol in. If i filled up with a few petrol cans and left for 24 hours with battery off it would start again the next day. this went on for a few week but now it has been doing it more often, will work for a day then not start for 2 days. Everytime i think i have fixed it as i will change or clean something and then it will start up.
replaced spark plugs, new battery.
Took off the fuel line today and no fuel in it so thinking it could be the fuel pump but i can hear the pump priming.
Car tries to start, not totally dead
Any ideas or help appreciated!! thanks in advance

fiat coupe forum is not working at the moment..does anyone know of any sites where i can get diagrams on the engine etc?
Trying to get off the fuel filter and then the fuel pump before i start with sensors as can't understand why the fuel is not getting to the pipes.
Right bugger to get off though as a few of the bolts are rusted on. Anyone know which pipe is the fuel pipe? (make sure i have got the right one)
where the fuel pump relay is and crank sensor?
cannot find nothing on the net

thanks mate just what i needed.
sorted it too, the filter was blocked and full of grit. working fine now with old one on but going to put a new one on now and give a good service.
Also my fuel gauge is faulty so prob been caused by petrol running low. I never let it get under quarter of a tank as i know it can cause problems on coupes but its obviously tricked me lol.
