The chip in the ecu...

Thought id unclip the harness from the ECU and refit to make sure it was fitted correctly/tightly, started the car up and good news it Rev'd to 7k so yes i thought my fault was fixed.
As i let the car tick over i jumped back and rev'd it again only for the 4-5k missfire to have returned......
I undid the ECU harness again and left it then refitted and started the car once more, the fault had gone and i Rev'd to 7k nicely.
This is the only the way the fault disapears ie uncliping the ECU harness and plugging it back in momentarliy it goes.
Any ideas as to why this happens? ECU at fault poss?
Would a dodgey Lambda sensor do this?
