General Corroded Door Mirror posts

My 2004 Multi has alloy door mirror posts, which are now starting to corrode quite badly.

What is the best fix for this? I was going to rub them down and use black hammerite, but not sure if that would be best for alloy??

Hammerite and Smoothrite aren't very good on alloy, they don't adhere very well and soon start to flake off.

Ideally rub down to bare metal and use an etching primer which will then allow you to use most types of paint for a top coat.
