I think this problem has been posted elsewhere but I cant find it!!!

When the cooling fan kicks in on my car it only stops on for a few seconds i.e. spins up and then stops again, any ideas on why it does this??

any help appreciated

Does the temp gauge go down when it switches on? Mine doesn't stay on for long but you can see the gauge going down when it does. Suspect that it's just a really efficient fan. :)

no it doesnt even stay on for 5 seconds and the temp guage hardly even moves so the fan will keep kicking in and stopping every minute or so, its not staying on long enough to see to make a difference!!

when the fan is kicking in for its very brief stint, its half way on the up temp guage on middle mark, when running normally its usually bout 1/3 to 1/2 way between the bottom mark and the middle mark!

Mine sits around the halfway mark as normal
Could be the temp sensor needs replacing?
What engine you got?

Rab. :)

Bravo 1.8

I have a question.

You've been driving along and the engine coolant has heated up (showing at a couple of bars above the half way mark) sufficiently to make the cooling fan kick in.
Normally I would expect it to work until the temperature has been reduced enough to then automatically switch itself off, but on my Bravo 1.8 HLX the fan stops the second the key is removed. Anyone know if it should continue to operate?

Has done this since new. Fiat claim to have checked everything.

Re: Bravo 1.8

When you stop the engine the water stops flowing around so even if the fan did keep going its only cooling the rad water and nothing else.

ie. a bit pointless.

the engines a 1.9 Turbo Diesel 100bhp

its just annoying to know if its ok or not this fan kicking in and out briefly as I spend a fair bit of time in traffic in Manchester

I would expect the fan when it kicks in to stay on for a few minutes and bring the engine temp down abit thats all......
