Just been reading my haynes manual, and just took notice of the difference's of the fan between the MK1 and MK2 turbo.

The mk1 fan switch will turn the fan on at 86 - 90 degrees and will switch off at 81 - 85 degrees.

however with the mk2 it switchs on at 90 - 94 degrees and off at 85 - 89 degrees.

so in theory you could fix the mk1 switch onto the mk2 and would result in the fan coming on at a lower temperature keeping your mk2 a little bit cooler.

same goes for the thermostat on the mk2 opening later than the mk1, the mk1 stat starts to open at 78 - 82 degrees and is fully open at 95 compared to the mk2 which starts to open at 80 - 84 and fully open at 96.

i just thought this information might be of interest to someone if they want there mk2 to run slightly cooler as i would have thought that with slight modification the thermostat and fan switch from a mk1 could be fitted to a mk2

Hmmm very interesting info mate, i already have a lower temp fan switch on my mark 2 fitted. Not sure where its from tbh but it does the job. Didnt know about the thermostat though, would a mark 1 thermostat fit onto a mark 2?? I dont like seeing my temp needle rise any higher than midway though in the summer time it did on a few occasions. Was thinking about fitting a manual fan switch as well just in case.

 F R O $ T Y

In standard form the needle should not go over half anyway.

Mk1 and mk2 thermostats are the same, interchangeable. Id say they would all be the same these days, aftermarket anyway.

I have a manual switch fitted in my mk1 now, the fan does come on automatically still,

i fitted it after last yeah it over heated in the summer in traffic, was down to a dodgy waterpump but still for my peace of mind i prefer to switch it on just in case.

I did the same what i added my fmic and the kenlowe.

Its just nice to have it there.
